3 Trends I'm Falling For This Season

Hallelujah! The smell of pumpkin spice and the feel of refreshingly crisp fall air has finally begun! There’s so much to look forward to in the next coming months, one of my favorites being the newest trends for the season! Now don’t get me wrong I still get excited for summer trends, but there’s just something about fall and winter that makes me feel like a kid in a candy store. Warm rustic colors, soft and cozy materials, and all new boots and booties are just a few reasons fall is hands down the best season.

I’ll start with my top fall trend to be on the look out for: off the shoulder tops. So I know it sounds like a summer staple and it definitely made its premier this season, but they are also the perfect transitional piece! As we enter the next few months where it’s not quite hot but not quite cold, off the shoulder tops are functional and super chic! I love that the trend has transitioned into long-sleeve cuts in beautiful fall hues. While we wait for the winter chill, these tops are styled best with distressed skinny jeans and pumps or booties, depending on the occasion.

Secondly, we can’t go without mentioning colors to be on the look out for! This season it’s all about warm tones. I’m obsessing over the burnt oranges, marigold, camel, and brick reds I’ve been seeing. As well, deeper tones of rose and soft pinks will add a delicate feel to your fall wardrobe. If you like things more on the dark side: charcoal, navy, taupe, and army green will be your go-to.

Finally, fall just wouldn’t be fall without layering. Mixing prints with basics, print on print, adding delicate bralettes to peak through sweaters, the list of possibilities goes on and on. Cardigans are a staple in the fall too, so be sure to stock up on neutrals! The main rules for layering are:

  • Start out thin: Put your thinnest layer on first and build up from there!

  • Add some variety: Keep things interesting! Pops of colors, long beaded necklaces, or a bralette peaking through add stunning details to any outfit.

  • Don’t forget about accent pieces: Throwing on a blanket scarf or a chic hat adds a strong element of personality and style to any outfit.

Keeping these top three trends in mind, be on the lookout for what A Cut Above has coming in the next few weeks. We promise you don’t want to miss out on our fall collection! For your first look at our new arrivals be sure to follow us on social media – Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook!

Best Dressed Olympian

Bridget Sloan featured in New York Times wearing A Cut Above

Bridget Sloan featured in the New York Times in our Right Move Scallop Top and Tassel Necklace.

The Rio 2016 Olympics have been in full swing since August 5th and we couldn’t be more excited! Watching the world’s top athletes compete for gold inspires determination and a sense of pride in all of us! If you’ve been keeping up over the past few days, you’ve been just as awestruck as we have by the gymnastics events! We can’t seem to turn away from the TV as these athletes display incredible focus and unbelievable strength! I can hardly keep my own balance when I’m standing straight up, yet here these men and women are doing flips and jumps and twists without losing an ounce of composure! Just last night our own Simone Biles (USA) received the gold medal for all-around! Defying gravity in the most graceful way possible, we’re proud to have such incredible individuals representing our country!

Bridget Sloan, 2008 Beijing Olympics.

On the topic of gymnastics super stars, we were all admittedly a little giddy when we found out that Bridget Sloan was one of our customers. Bridget took home a silver medal in the 2008 Beijing Olympics, was All Around World Champion in 2009, and continued to excel for UF Gymnastics as an NCAA Champion in 2013, 2014, and 2015 and as SEC Female Athlete of the Year in 2016!

Bridget Sloan with our owner, Brittney Denman.
Our owner recently had the opportunity to assist her in our Gainesville location and couldn’t say enough good things about her. Not only is Bridget an incredible athlete, she is the one of the most humble and kind people you’ll ever come across and we are honored to call her a customer.

Bridget in our Short Sleeve PIKO Top (Black) and in our Next Mistake Stripe Kimono.

Bridget was recently featured in the New York Times and is currently working at the NBC Sports Headquarters in Stamford, Connecticut in hopes of continuing on the path towards onscreen work. We couldn’t be more proud to see that she reps A Cut Above! In her interview with New York Times, she rocked our Right Move Scallop Top and tassel necklace! If you check out her Instagram or Twitter, @bridgetsloan, she shows us so much #ACAlove! We can’t wait to see where life takes her next, we wish you the best of luck and we love you Bridget!
